DUI Rules in South Carolina

South Carolina is one state in the country that has the worst statistics related to drunk driving. About 37% of all the auto accidents that take place out here is a result of alcohol consumption or drunk driving. Efforts have been made by the government in this regard to make the roads of South Carolina safer. This is why there are now bigger fines and enhanced jailing terms for the DUI convictions. Conditions for DUI Offenses

1.If your blood alcohol content is between 0.08 and 0.09, the first time offenders are required to stay about 2 to 30 days in jail or perform 48 hours of community service with a fine of $400. The subsequent offenders are required to spend about 5 days to a year in jail with a fine of $2100 to $5100.

2.If your blood alcohol content is between 0.10 and 0.15, the first time offenders are required to stay about 3 to 30 days in jail or perform 72 hours of community service with a fine of $500. The subsequent offenders are required to spend about 30 days to 2 years in jail with a fine of $2500 to $5500.

3.If your blood alcohol content is between 0.16 and above, the first time offenders are required to stay about 30 to 60 days in jail or perform 30 days of community service with a fine of $1000. The subsequent offenders are required to spend about 90 days to 3 years in jail with a fine of $3500 to $6500.

Additional changes have also been made in the realm of drunk driving in South Carolina. These have been made effective since July 2009. All offenders have been termed to receive a mandatory alcohol and drug rehabilitation. The under age drinkers will have their driving licenses suspended for about 6 months. A license suspension of an additional 6 months should be mandatory if the individual refuses the DUI breath test.
